Pond Docks:
I generally search online for images of real docks and then create some replicas out out of cedar for my garden pond.
Some of them I will just start building and see what happens, as with my latest covered dock, complete with a swim hole for the frogs and with planters on the deck.
I’ll have some more images up soon of various docks.
I also have a few ‘frog stands’ that I’ve built. They feature a lower wooden area that is somewhat submerged for the frogs to sit in. They can also hop on the outer rails to stay out of the water if they want. There’s a swim hole in the middle so they can come through that, or off the sides. It’s pretty cool, and the frogs like it =]
Want a replica of your own dock built? Contact me for details. An image and dimensions is all I need.
Here’s an image of the last one I put together. I wanted something that sort of looked like a floating pavillion. This kind of does it. This platform floats and has a center hole for frogs to hop out onto the platform. I also decided to put two mini planters on it, and stuck some dirt and some moss in it. I tend to not water as much as I should be, so the moss is sort of dying. The modified version 2.0 will include a planter box that is water level, so the water will constantly be moistening the soil to keep the moss alive.

Here’s a picture of a standard free floating dock in the hot tub.
I will get this filled in sooner or later. I plan to add various questions that I had when I decided to build a garden pond.
etc… more to come =]
Where should the garden pond be located? - Location somewhat depends on what you plan to do with the pond, and/or what type of plants you want to grow. Location may also vary depending on whether or not you want to clean it all the time, or deal with a lot of algae. My pond is unfortunately located under a big tree, and a few walnut trees nearby also. This creates a mess when the walnuts start falling off the trees, many end up in the pond. As far fall, when the leaves drop from the trees, this also creates a mess. I generally setup netting over the pond for a few months until the leaves are done falling. Failure to do so could cause a disaster in the pond and possibly kill off your fish if not treated. My pond generally gets a few hours of sun light a day. This causes some plants to do good, others to not do so well.
Should I get fish for my garden pond?- A pond to me isn’t a pond without fish and wildlife. It’s really up to you whether or not you would like fish in your pond. Some things to consider are predators in the area, how much time you want to put into maintaining a healthy pond, etc. One of the problems I have sometimes is racoons hopping my fence and swimming in the
Welcome to the new home of gardenponding.com. I will be working on this to create a free website full of garden pond resources, tips, plans, and howtos. When I first started my venture into garden ponds/water gardens world, I couldn’t really find a whole lot of information on the net.
If you like the idea and want to help out, let me know. I figure I will start posting some messages and howtos, general information on what I’ve done with my own pond. Hopefully others will share their experiences also.
